17.01.2020 - Marc Bally : Choréoké - Festival en Jeux JOJ 2020 (Lausanne) 17 jan. !
Autre
EXECAL, Association - Expires 31.01.2020

09.01.2020 - ECAL x RBM by Flokk: The Future of School Seating - Konstnärshuset (Stockholm) 4-7 Feb.
DI
EXECAL, Association - Expires 12.02.2020
On the occasion of the Stockholm Design Week from 4 to 7 February 2020, ECAL students reimagine the school chair of the future with RBM by Flokk
Innovative architecture, technology and design is shaping the future of education, challenging the norms for those creating learning spaces more than ever before. Danish furniture manufacturers RBM have embarked on a semester-long design project with students from world renowned Swiss art and design university, ECAL.
“What a great challenge for the students: collaborate with an important brand in order to create future experiences based on their experiences from the past! Back to school and to the future!” Alexis Georgacopoulos, Director of ECAL.
Based around the title, The Future of School Seating, the 1st year Master Product Design students worked with course leader and designer Camille Blin to explore alternatives to today’s traditional school chair, specifically for children aged 6-12. A selection of these concepts will be exclusively on display at Stockholm Design Week.
“We tasked the students at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne to reimagine traditional school chairs and to design a product that fits seamlessly into the operating culture of future learning environments. We know that ways of teaching and learning are more diverse than ever before and we’re excited to show off some great concepts from the ECAL 1st year Master Product Design students – the next generation of super talented designers.” Oystein Austad, Design Manager, RBM by Flokk.
Located inside Konstnärshuset, a stunning and historical art gallery based in Central Stockholm, Education Reimagined invites visitors to experience an interactive exhibition of inspiring concepts presented by the students themselves.
Visitors to Stockholm Design week can enjoy a fascinating glimpse into how young designers envision education spaces of the future.

09.01.2020 - A. Anner & T. Brevet, C. Niebling, Douma/Guittet : Swiss Design Accelerator - Swissnex San Francisco, 14 jan.
DI
EXECAL, Association - Expires 09.02.2020
Join us for a discussion on the role of designers in actively shaping the path towards a more equitable planet. Alongside design experts from the Bay Area and Switzerland, we explore the question of social responsibility around consumer goods — and how design can incentivize people to live and act more sustainably in today’s societies. The event will shine light on how design can incite social change by including ethical considerations into the practice.

As part of our Design Accelerator program with Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and Design Preis Schweiz, swissnex San Francisco will host design studios from Switzerland who will present innovative products and ideas in breakout sessions. These Swiss studios* have been selected for our Swiss Design Accelerator arranged through an open call launched last September for a pilot program initiated between Pro Helvetia, swissnex San Francisco and Design Preis Schweiz.

*Studios of ECAL alumni:
> AATB | Andrea Anner & Thibault Brevet | aatb.ch
AATB are Andrea Anner & Thibault Brevet, both graduates from ECAL. Having previously worked on interactive objects, the tandem then explored the use of industrial robotic arms, crystallizing their research and leading them to investigate the potential of robotics and industrial automation outside of the factory.

> Carolien Niebling
Born in the Netherlands, Carolien Niebling lives and works in Zurich. She is a designer and researcher who specializes in food-related projects. Her work creates a bridge between science and food, using design as the medium to do so. Her book «The Sausage of the Future» supported by ECAL and published by Lars Müller Publishers takes the reader on a journey through all the building blocks of a sausage. It just has been awarded at the Design Schweiz Preis in the «Research» category.

> Douma/Guittet
Douma/Guittet is a Paris-based design studio founded by ECAL alumnis Salim Douma and Victor Guittet. They collaborate with startups and SME to design innovative products and meaningful experiences. They intervene in different sectors as medical, mobility, connected devices and office and living furniture design.

This event is part of the Swiss Touch USA campaign, highlighting Switzerland as an innovative and forward-thinking partner in today’s ever-changing global community.

Kenya is a country with a young population, full of would-be consumers. Chaumont Zaerpour’s Things People Wear in Kenya is a photographic study of fashion as lived, worn, produced and consumed there. The book is an extensive, meandering observation of unscripted and posed contemporary clothes-wearing. Kenyan urbanites can choose from three principal clothing sources: local fashion labels, which are expensive and for most unaffordable as the raw materials are imported; mass-produced low-quality yet still comparatively dear garments from countries further east; or the mitumba trade, second-hand clothing which originates in Western clothing donation. This business, which has emerged over the past three decades, works when used clothes are exported from Europe and sold, at low cost and in high volumes, to African buyers, ending up distributed through market stalls. The photographers consider these distinct trades on their travels between Nairobi, Mombasa, Lake Naivasha and the World Heritage Site of Lamu.

The different fashion economies intertwine in the book, which is above all informed by Kenyan voices – clothing designers and wearers alike who spoke to the authors about their perception of clothing today during their two research periods traveling around the country. Their testimonies and the stories behind the photographs illuminate how textile cultures have been formed and informed by actors both in and far beyond Kenya. The reading experience of the book, with the mass of images and their rhythm, is akin to working through the dizzying piles of clothes in a mitumba market. Fashion is of relevance to everyone, whatever their income, and intersects with equally pressing social, economic and religious concerns. - Kodoji Press
