A festival for experimental media art
and digital cultures

Organized by METAA and guided by the theme “Break the Loop”, localhost:2026 celebrates experimental artistic practices and digital cultures.

In music as in code, the loop is a fundamental structure. Breaking the loop is about interrupting what runs on autopilot, questioning reliance on automation. It is leading practices towards alternatives better aligned with the rhythm of life.

localhost:2026 highlights artists and designers whose experimental and critical approches challenge established norms. Join the festival to collectively rethink our relationship with the digital through these new imaginaries.

04.03.2026 - Containers Love Disorder – Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen | 7 March – 31 May 2026
AV
Sohr, Matthias - Expires 01.06.2026
The group exhibition «Containers Love Disorder» brings together seven artists and collectives active in Switzerland who explore strategies of arrangement, classification and situatedness. On display are works by Michèle Graf & Selina Grüter, Dominic Michel, Mathis Pfäffli, Matthias Sohr, Kelly Tissot, Paulo Wirz and the collaborative project La Bibliothèque des Ready-Mades, initiated by Anaïs Wenger in 2023.

As the title suggests, the exhibition is based on the idea of the container as a symbol and model for social organisation and beyond. Specifically, the standardised metal containers function as a basic prerequisite for the efficient, global circulation of goods. More figuratively speaking, containers create spaces, assign places to things and act as moderators for relationships and actions. In this sense, also an institution – also a Kunst Halle – can be understood as a container: for art, for networks, for discourse. The attempt of classification in the field of art always goes hand in hand with questions of authority, context and the dynamics of inclusion and exclusion. The invited artists reflect on the conditions of art production and access, responding to the spatial and contextual circumstances of Kunst Halle in the form of sculptures or installations.

Adopting various focal points and approaches, the exhibited works examine the relationship between people and infrastructures. In doing so, they trace the influences of economic cycles on our thoughts and actions, sharpen our awareness of technologised environments, or devote themselves to stories and rituals that are inscribed in everyday objects. Through collecting, recording, recycling and appropriating, these artists confront a world of excess and turn their attention decisively to its remnants, rejects and side scenes.

«Containers Love Disorder» is based on the premise that every order, every system has an inherent entropic force. In this perspective, «disorder» does not simply refer to an energetic expenditure or dissolution, but also encompasses the potential for resistance, change and reorganisation. The apparent contradiction between order and disorder may sometimes even turn out to be a passionate relationship – a longing for chaos and otherness. Meanwhile, classification itself can also be understood as an invitation to recognise patterns, shift boundaries and explore the gaps between things. «Containers Love Disorder» aims to address such considerations artistically and devote an aesthetic commentary to (un)ordered relationships.

Time Leaks
12.02.–10.05.26

For his first institutional solo exhibition in German-speaking Switzerland, alfatih works across the six rooms of the former tax office on the second floor of the Kunsthaus, which was once the town hall. The building is built on water: the River Langete flows beneath it. Its historic flood protection system and regular flooding earned the town the nickname Little Venice. The setting of the exhibition thus reflects the tension between planning and order on the one hand, and unforeseen elements that threaten to undermine them on the other. This tension also forms the basis of alfatih’s new works, which have been created for the exhibition. Time Leaks is an investigation into the rules of games and what happens when their logic begins to falter, the title itself functioning as a disruption of order.
A publication will be released to accompany the exhibition in April.

Tracks and Traces
Thomas Hauri, Izidora | LETHE, Christelle Kahla*, Anastasia Pavlou
12.02.–10.05.26

The exhibition brings together recent works of non-representational painting by four artists from German-speaking Switzerland and the Romandie, Switzerland’s French-speaking region. Across all four practices, painterly processes play a central role, with the scale and movements of the body being particularly significant. This is expressed in very different ways in their work. Thomas Hauri, for instance, reworks his large-format watercolours again and again, so that the traces of watering and drying, layering and rubbing can be experienced almost physically. Izidora | LETHE combines painterly and performative processes, working in a site-specific and collaborative way. LETHE’s works are created, for example, using pigment shaped by the movements of participants within the space. Christelle Kahla uses symbolically charged objects such as clothing or jewellery as stencils for sprayed images. She refers to the physical while avoiding painterly gestures. Anastasia Pavlou’s paintings, with their emphatically bold application of colour, stand in the tradition of expressive painting movements, whereby the possibility of deviation, for instance towards the conceptual or the figurative, is a fundamental condition.
